MK Ciurlionis

Mikalojus Konstantinus Curlionis (1875 - 1911) was a Lithuanian composer and painter. His paintings have an imaginative precision and sensuality that sets it apart even from other Baltic artists of the period. My skin sees it. His eyes heard it (he was a self-professed synesthete, re:scriabin et al). His music, in a similar manner, embraced the romantic and pastoral trends of the day, however in a less idosynchratic way i feel (I do love his solo piano pieces). Still, he is regarded as one of the greatest Baltic composers. No doubt his fatal pneumonia enfuneraling him in a sanatorium at the age of 35 was brought on from overworking himself!! He has an asteroid named after him (2420 Ciurlionis).
