usa fitness
this is why we're a fat country. (and you don't need to message me about how this actually makes sense for people with handicaps, etc. i understand that and am happy that usa fitness was so thoughtful. i'm not being mean. it was just a flash in the pan thought.)

ok. after five minutes of laughing i have finally composed myself to a state where i can type..... one of the funniest things i have ever seen. almost as good as the simpsons episode where bart and lisa torment the fatties by standing outside the window of a gym, eating icecream.

I can see the escalator OUT, when you're exhausted after your air-conditioned workout, but in? That's just ridiculous.
33mhz (95 months ago | reply)
Well, you could always use that to your workout advantage: take the down escalator up and the up escalator down for an extra little workout.

haha wow - perfect.
24 hours, escalatiors.. the pinnacle of convenience.. i wonder if you can hire someone to actually lift the weights for you?
ericisrad (95 months ago | reply)
Actually, I'm pretty sure that's the 24-Hour Fitness in Point Loma, which is in San Diego. I've been to that one probably 20 times, but I always use the stairs for the record! :)
ericisrad (95 months ago | reply)
Yeah, sorry for the 2nd comment, but if you zoom in on the right, there's a sign that says "Point Loma."
Oddly, San Diego is one of the fittest cities in the nation (#9 this year by Men's Health Mag).

Sorry to burst your bubble (as funny as it is) but I know exactly what this is about, having grown up as the daughter of a crazed athlete, and now being married to one (not meaning to sound like a slouch here, but I don't go to clubs):
They're always injured! I swear!
I can see my husband - the fittest person I know - loving those damned escalators, because they'd save his knees from hurting a little more, so that he could then go and play 3 hours of tennis, followed by 2 hours in the gym, before lunch.
Athletes are very weird people - trust me. I bet if I were to show him that picture without my saying a word, he'd say, "escalators! cool idea! that would be great for my knees" - then head out for a two-hour bike ride.

Checkitout. I think they're actually *walking up* the escalator. Move along!

I used to frequent a Bally's in a Cleveland suburb. In the 2 story building, they had an elevator. There was one guy in particular that amused me to no end: He was in really good shape, but he'd show up every day pulling his workout bag behind him (it was on wheels) and always take the elevator up to the track.

Well, are we all forgetting handicap accessibilty? What about the unfortunate one-legged patrons? They can't be hopping up to the gym, now can they?
Peace.

Well, sometimes people who are disabled (bad feet, bad knees, maybe prosthetic legs) want to work out to develop their upper bodies.
Now, your next photograph should be of a drive-through ATM with Braille instructions, so you can have a laugh at how ridiculous that is. Think about it for a while and you may figure it out. (Hint: Sometimes blind people ride in taxis.)
Cameraman Phil (91 months ago | reply)
maybe you're supposed to walk up the down escalator and walk down the up escalator

This is in the middle of a strip mall in Point Loma (San Diego). 24 hour moved into this location well after this mall was built. It just happens to have an escalator in front of their area.

I'm the guy on the low end of the escalator. Apparently some stunned tourist took this pic on the day I was signing up. This 24 Hour Fitness is located on Sports Arena Blvd in the Point Loma area of San Diego. I tore something in my knee years before doing heavy leg extensions, and ever since walking stairs hurt like hell. I could walk stairs gingerly, but the escalator really helped. This pic was most likely taken in 1998 or 1999, soon after i moved to San Diego. Returned to southeast Virginia about 12 years ago (today is 10/10/2012). Today my knee is fine. Never had it operated on, but I took up some low mileage road bike riding (which didn't bother it), and I think that may have helped with rehabilitation. But again, that was one super sensitive knee. - Jay K.
