Electricity

Just outside of Guymon, OK on my way back to the hotel after a day of storm chasing. There was a cemetery just a little down the way, and I wanted to shoot this over the tombstones but sort of had all those zombie movies I ever watched in my youth suddenly come springing to mind… so after a day of real danger, I wimped out over my imagination… and shot from this area instead.

Terrific image..... usually I'm too scared to be out shooting when there is much lightning around.... Thanks for your comments on my storm shots. Needless to say I'm not going to be driving into a storm like that again....

I was (seriously) kind of scared when I shot this. I was out on a lonely cemetery road all by myself in the middle of nowhere with lightning blasting in the not too distant distance… it was pitch black and only became illuminated when a flash of lightning would light up the sky for a brief second, then it was back to pitch black. Framing this image was hard in that environment and I stepped into numerous puddles because I forgot I had my flashlight on me until I was pretty much set up. I think it more foolish than brave to be shooting pictures in this environment… especially with the threat of zombies lurking nearby...

A crowning shot Matt. Love that lone bolt striking through the scarlet mists from the angry billowing mass towering above. And the reflections add a subtle foreground, indispensably accenting stormy drama beyond.

Thanks John! I should (if everything goes right) be back out on the central plains next month…. you should come and document me having mishaps! LOL. Seriously though, the grandeur of the center of the US is truly found in the skies.
