This is THE shot I've been waiting two years to get. I have been telling all my local Flickr friends who live near San Francisco to keep me in mind when they see the deck of the Golden Gate Bridge covered in fog. Every time I pass through the city on my way home from various events, I would always take the long way back, just in case...
Saturday night as I was settling in, and figuring out what holiday specials I could watch with my daughters, my buddy Miguel (Amigo) calls and tells me "Matt, you've got to get here fast!" and so with great speed, I took to my car and did the hour and a half drive to Battery Spencer (and yes, I have a wonderfully understanding wife!). It felt much the same as when I was in Oklahoma and a chaser called me and told me to drives out four hours to where a tornado was touching down. There was no way of knowing if it would still be there upon arrival. I was feeling like this could very well be a fools errand.
Fireworks were blasting above Sausalito as I exited the Waldo grade tunnel, and I knew then that everything was going to be fine.
When I arrived, the fog was still very present, but after squeezing off four shots, it began to recede. This image is actually a blend of my first two shots. I didn't want the fence in my frame, but really thought I'd have a bit more time before the fog would recede… which I didn't.
Doesn't matter though! I'm just very happy to have this long sought after (by me) night time fogged in GGB image. Thank you Miguel. You are a champion! I owe you!
