Photo-a-day #365: December 31, 2011 - New Year's Eve Sledding

Photo-a-day #365: December 31, 2011 - New Year's Eve Sledding

Wow, 365 days, 365 pictures! I wasn't sure I would make it, but I did. This shot ends the year how I started it: just doing some tipsy, midnight (11:54PM actually) sledding into the new year in Tomahawk. If you turn around, you'd see this right behind you.

This shot is quite a bit more complicated than the one taken on January 1st... and was a lot darker than it shows. Thanks to David and Lisa, this 25-second exposure is illuminated because they ran down the hill with two 430EX flashes, firing away towards our sledding path. With almost no light, going down while snowing heavily is pretty exciting--and those trees can sneak up on you as well. This picture is looking to the future, while the January 1 was looking into the past. A somewhat ironic way of looking at the start and completion of the year.

Though I'm not continuing the project into 2012, I may consider doing it in future years. Thanks for all the support and positive messages and comments on this project. It was more challenging than I thought it would be, but also more rewarding.

Strobist Info: 25 second exposure, multiple off-camera 430ex gun firings all over the place

Photo-a-day #364: December 30, 2011 - Ian Sledding

Photo-a-day #364: December 30, 2011 - Ian Sledding

Ian was doing a little sledding today, as Tomahawk actually has some snow on the ground (still bare in Madison). Here he is literally and figuratively waving goodbye. Goodbye at the camera, and goodbye at his last starring Photo-A-Day picture, and 2011.

Photo-a-day #363: December 29, 2011 - Lake House

Earlier in the year, I talked about the importance to me in documenting places important in my everyday life. Four years ago, 5 couples in our family bought this place in Tomahawk, Wisconsin on Lake Nokomis. We've had some really great times here, and continue to enjoy spending our free time at this haven.

Photo-a-day #362: December 28, 2011 - Touchpad Games with Grandpa and Grandma

Photo-a-day #362: December 28, 2011 - Touchpad Games with Grandpa and Grandma

A couple months ago, I showed Ian and Grandpa reading out of a good ol' fashioned book just before bed. Fast forward, and now he's playing some Angry Birds w/ Grandpa and Grandma on their Touchpad just before bed. Still in PJs and not some kind of space clothes at least. Oh, how the times change, even w/ the Touchpad being such a rare commodity!

Photo-a-day #361: December 27, 2011 - Santa Pepe

Photo-a-day #361: December 27, 2011 - Santa Pepe

It was getting late today, and with only FIVE days left for my photo-a-day project, I'm about out of ideas....yes, I dressed my dog up as Santa Claus.

He's worn this get-up before, when he played Santa a few years ago at my parents house, to the delight of my niece and nephew. It didn't go well for Pepe though, as the red hood fell over his eyes and my brother's miniature dachshund stole Pepe's bone. The humanity!
