So happy! Yay!
wii by mattclark79.
My little brother Stephen, who was born with cerebal palsy and is unable to walk or talk, is able to play video game baseball against his little sister with the Wii.

This photograph grips your soul. Screw Nintendo PR. You should enter it in a photojournalism competition,it'd be a great positive recap of 2006 with all the devestation that is going on. Wii is a gaming marvel, but this photograph explains the capability of technology bringing joy with out boundries.
It'll raise awareness on CP too if you win. E-mail this editor... or whoever... www.time.com/time/photoessays/

LOL.

Why can't the PS3 or the 360 do this? Just because it's the Wii doesn't make it especially touching.

It's nice to see the sick kid having fun.

But why does the fact that it's the Wii make any difference? Has the kid ever played a 360 or a PS3? You're showing console bias if he hasn't, and you can't say he wouldn't be happy with those.

cracked_logic [deleted] says:

ottoman673, what does it matter what console he's using? are you so shallow of mind that you can't see the beauty in a seriously limited person being able to play a video game with family? why would even think it appropriate to quibble over the littlest detail, like what kind of gaming he's doing. your an insensitive person to say the least.

i think this photo is awesome. i think its amazing that something as simple to many as a video game could bring so much joy into a persons life. sorry that comments like ottomans, or my response, even get made.
Posted 25 months ago. ( permalink )

view profile

ottoman673 says:

I understand he's limited.
I'm not saying the kid SHOULD be playing an Xbox 360.
I'm just saying to all you people commenting - Yeah, it's a fucking Wii, big deal. You could have the same fun playing an Atari 2600 or a PS3. I said i was glad for the kid and that he was having fun.

But the fact that it's a wii isn't supposed to make this 40x more special.
Bullshit like this:
"You should send this to the Nintendo PR department, they'd probably love it."

That's a very beautiful human moment. I'm so glad it could happen.

Even in evil, evil capitalism, which is easy to hate, and which is usually evil, a special company can make something for profit that enables special people to do something special. Nintendo is one of the good guys. Boo Sony.

This is a most beautiful moment.

ottoman.. your fanboyism is disgusting... its a great picture..

part of what makes it interesting is that a kid who cant walk may have never had a change to play baseball before.. but with the wii he can swing a bat.

I am disgusted that you would post such an unnesary comment in an otherwise wonderfull and positive thread.
