Aspect view from Sketchup of my sideyard with four 4' x8' raised beds and a small shed for garden equipment.

The shed arrives tomorrow, the beds to be built over the next few weeks. Then soil, then gravel on all the paths to cut down on slugs.

raised beds are easier on the back, the soil gets warmed up earlier in the year, and it's easier to block critters from below (wire mesh) and above (netting).

Did you consider turning the raised bed that is in front of your shed 90 degrees so that maybe you'd have more space in front of the shed doors?

I have a small yard and the idea of raised beds seems great.
