The Research Configuration by math0ne.
I spend a lot of time at the computer and because of that I try to break up my day by working with a few different configurations depending on the task I’m currently working on.

The Research Configuration (http://www.flickr.com/photos/math0ne/2775934635/)

This is my Tablet PC (HP TC4400) in tablet mode. I do most of my reading and project planning in this mode. Tablets are great for providing a different way of interacting with your computer. I find i can lay on the couch work walking around and easily switch between anything in between while working in this mode.

* Onenote in full-window mode
* Windows Explorer with QTTabBar, QT Address Bar, and Findexer

The Creation Configuration (http://www.flickr.com/photos/math0ne/2775936089/)

I use this mode the most, when I connect my 22" external monitor to my laptop i have Ultramon set up to automatically set my secondary resolution and samurize is set to monitor the resolution and adjust the desktop/music/email/hd indicator to the secondary monitor.

* e Text Editor: Best programmers text editor available for windows
* WinSCP: File Transfer Program
* Firefox: Custom start page
* Digsby: Theme by me
* Foobar2000: Theme by me
* SecureCRT: SSH

The Focused Configuration (http://www.flickr.com/photos/math0ne/2776792844/)

I find that i can easily become unfocused with so much monitor space to spread out over so i get most of my hard grinding work done in this mode at my standing work space.

Executor: Application Launcher
Shutdown: gehrunnerjunge

Applications i use:

Samurize: I use samurise to display my text based to-do list, some music info, email, and HD space at all times on my desktop. My laptop battery level is displayed in the bottom right corner using samurize as well.
PSTray Factory: To change tray icons
BBLean Mod: Windows Shell (Mod of ce

Vim is much better (and capable, + free) than e, and runs on window$. emacs too (but it's a little bit bloated). But I don't want to start a flamewar, these are facts.

I agree with zsoltika, but even if you wouldn't want to use Vim you should try Intype (http://intype.info/home/index.php) I find it more appealing than e and it seems to have the same features.

I really like the text mate bundles and the simple configuration. I like VIM too but i find myself much more attracted to a program that does not have a lot of feature baggage. I'm interested in a program that does what i need an not too much more.

Intypes interface was not customizable enough for me. If forget the exact issue, but i ended up ditching it for e.

Are you using a program that enabled you to define these configurations (with OneNote and Windows Explorer positioned in specific locations), or are these configuration pics a general example of what your configurations look like after you manually set them up? I understand that Samurize is displaying the text on the desktop, but Samurize doesn't seem to have the capability to launch instances of programs (such as OneNote and Windows Explorer in your screenshot) in specific locations. Or am I missing something?

Thanks for your help.
