Neversink Pit

    Prev Next

Two cavers ascend out of the 162' Neversink Pit in Alabama. Photos do not give this place justice! This photo won an honorable mention in the 2006 NSS Slide Salon.

In the summer time, there are glow worms in the walls of the pit and it is best to go there on a clear, moonless night. Rappel to the bottom and sit in the middle of the pit for about 15-20 minutes with your lights off and you will see the entire pit glowing once your eyes adjust. Get on rope in the dark and ascend up the rope with your headlamp off for an amazing experience to see the walls glowing below, beside and above you. If it is a clear night, the stars make it an even better experience.

This photo inspired a visit to Neversink. However, I am having a
very hard time finding access information. I would really appreciate your help on how to get there; my group will be driving there tomorrow. Thank you very much!
