One of the many very large boulders that fell down from the adjacent mountains into Yingxiu. It both killed people when it fell down but also shielded survivors from other falling rocks due to its size. The rock is now used as a sign to welcome visitors to the town and to remind them of the May 12 earthquake.
Of the approximately 20,000 people who lived in Yingxiu prior earthquake, only 3000 people remain today. I am still haunted by the numerous stories of death and destruction that I heard and witnessed from the local people.
