European Mantis

You can learn a lot trying to ID something. I learned that there are 3 major types of praying mantis in my area - the Carolina Mantis, the Chinese Mantis and the most common, the European Mantis. They each have their slight variations, including multiple color forms.

I was lucky enough to see three different mantises the day I took this - one a beautiful pure green, this one completely brown, and one that had a little of both. And they all looked well-fed, so I guess the bugs at Palmyra were looking over their shoulders for these assassins.
