Caught in the Act

Caught in the Act by martytdx.
Common Green Darners - mating
Anax junius

I've often complained about how seldom these darners land, but in mid-September, I hit the motherlode as about a half-dozen pairs of them were mating and landing all over the place.

The sheer size of these dragons is enough to impress, but their colors are also quite attractive. Catching them in the act, as it were, was a particularly fortuitous moment for me - even if it meant trudging through the mud to get.
