Philadelphia Vireo - fall plumage
Vireo philadelphicus

I got out for my first good day of birding/hiking in a long time (Forsythe and car-birding don't count). There weren't many birds to see at Palmyra but the ones that I did see were fun - and I finally found some butterflies and dragonflies, after a VERY slim summer.

I'm 99% sure that this is a Philadelphia Vireo rather than the more common Warbling Vireo - if so, it's my first picture of one, and my first truly 100% sighting (I've had other "I'm pretty sure..." sightings in the past, but nothing this good - gotta love photographic evidence)...

Great Philly Vireo shot! Yellow throat, dark cap, and dark lores, definitely a bright adult Philly.

Great sighting and photo op! We went to Palmyra today, for the first time. I saw in the visitor log that someone had quite the sightings yesterday! However, my best shots are of the four deer we saw up close. My kids were with me and my youngest finds it hard not to chatter, which is difficult when birding. I think my next trip may be solo!

It looks fine for Philadelphia. Nice shot. A few have been seen around the northern half of the state over the last week or so.

What outstanding crispness on this one, Marty. I'm sooooooo jealous.

Refresh my memory--what lens are you shooting with? I want one!

Thanks for the confirmation. Like I said, I've seen near misses before but I finally have proof.

frizbeemom - hope you had a good time there -- good luck on a return visit!
