Something to fawn over

Something to fawn over by martytdx.
It was a bizarre and mostly unsuccessful short jaunt at Palmyra Cove this morning. With our vacation delayed by 2 days, I needed to get out. Well, at Palmyra, a sampling of the bizarreness:

-- NO damselflies (none! never happened before!)
-- a spotted sandpiper
-- a wild turkey (first one I've seen there)
-- catalpa moth caterpillars all over the ground, on other planets, EVERYWHERE because they had already stripped almost all of the catalpa trees bare.
-- Not ONE catalpa moth showing predation by the icheumon wasps.
-- Not ONE mosquito bite.

Oh, and I got poured on while I was there. But at the same time, I did get to see two does with a total of 5 fawns, including this little one. It seemed relatively inquisitive of me - maybe because of it's twin 2m away - and stood there for a few pictures. Too bad the weather was really not condusive to non-flash shots.

Noooooo mosquitoes? Wow. Where is Palmyra Cover Nat.Park...I'm afraid I've never heard of it. Darling little fawn in the grass. Dragonflies have been strangely absent in my area too. oh, we have a few....but nothing like last year.

very interesting. It seems like there are a lot of odd events happening this year. For me all the chipmunks are gone from my yard. For the last 9 years I have had several coming to the back yard and this year none

To me, it would be worth it just to have no mosquitoes. Hate those things!

Things have been different than normal this year, but it sounds like you had a particularly weird day. Great shot of the fawn from it though. Watched a Nova thing on "global dimming" last night. Think I'm going back to bed. For good.
