ACE Race Grizedale 2008
This was my second two day ACE Race, this time in Grizedale in the Lake District, which was a part of the Dirty Weekend.

Chris, a friend I did my first Rat Race with, had recommended we stay at a youth hostel instead of camping, and it was a great plan. On Saturday the rain poured from before we got up until long after the race had finished. This made the paths turn into streams, the streams turn into rivers, the rivers into raging torrents and the lakes into dangerous places to be. One of the kayaking stages had to be changed from a multi-point adventure into a single 3km route, and even then teams were capsizing and we lost our bags overboard for a brief moment. The night stage was cancelled due to the weather, which meant Chris and I had a relaxing evening carbo loading.

Sunday couldn't have been any different. We awoke to blue skies and a cool, light breeze; we couldn't have been any happier. Chris and I got the kayaking from Low Wray to Ambleside done via a few points on the water, some urban orienteering in Ambleside, then back into the kayaks and home via some mountain biking checkpoints.

The scenery on Sunday and on my drive home was incredible. I'll definitely need to get back down there when the weather is good.
