anthers, on unknown grass, on head, about 3 in long, WDW
The object across the width of the photo is part of the flowering head of a grass plant, which, as I recall, was about at that angle. The entire structure was perhaps 3 inches/1 dm in length. The small light-colored objects are anthers, I believe. The yellow or orange objects in the background, out of focus, are flowers, probably marigolds. Uploaded on Nov 10, 2009 British soldiers with moss, including sporophytes, in background, unretouched
Lichen on a rail embedded in the ground at the edge of a lawn, Pickens County, South Carolina. Lichens are a mutualistic combination of an alga and a fungus, and will grow under conditions where most organisms would have difficulty, such as on bare rock. The red-tipped lichen, probably Cladonia cristatella, is known as British soldiers lichen, and probably has other common names. Uploaded on Nov 9, 2009 Romans 1:20 poster
This is an attempt to illustrate Romans 1:20b, a verse that indicates that nature, "the things that have been made," is one of the ways that God reveals Himself to us. Uploaded on Nov 8, 2009 Small orange morning glory flowersThis flower seems to be a member of the morning glory (Convulvulaceae) family. It was growing along US 80, a few miles/kilometers from Savannah, Georgia. The shot was taken in the morning. The flowers were perhaps an inch/3 cm across. I like the buds in this photo, too. Uploaded on Nov 7, 2009 Amanita mushroom, not fully opened, with waterdrops, flash, otherwise unretouched
This mushroom opened up all the way, later. It was about a decimeter/3 inches tall here, and growing along the road that runs by our house. Thank God for the rain that caused this organism to put up this reproductive body. We needed it badly at the time. Uploaded on Nov 6, 2009 |
