anthers, on unknown grass, on head, about 3 in long, WDW by Martin LaBar

anthers, on unknown grass, on head, about 3 in long, WDW

The object across the width of the photo is part of the flowering head of a grass plant, which, as I recall, was about at that angle. The entire structure was perhaps 3 inches/1 dm in length. The small light-colored objects are anthers, I believe. The yellow or orange objects in the background, out of focus, are flowers, probably marigolds.

This was taken in the Magic Kingdom, in Walt Disney World, Florida, USA. The grounds is well landscaped, and there are also wild plants, and animals (even deer) that live and apparently prosper in the Magic Kingdom.

It was a privilege to go there with our grandsons and their parents, and, especially, see the reactions of our grandsons.

British soldiers with moss, including sporophytes, in background, unretouched by Martin LaBar

British soldiers with moss, including sporophytes, in background, unretouched

Lichen on a rail embedded in the ground at the edge of a lawn, Pickens County, South Carolina. Lichens are a mutualistic combination of an alga and a fungus, and will grow under conditions where most organisms would have difficulty, such as on bare rock. The red-tipped lichen, probably Cladonia cristatella, is known as British soldiers lichen, and probably has other common names.

More detail may be seen at the larger sizes. Isn't God a great artist?

I have created a gallery of fine photos, by other Flickr members, of this kind of lichen.

Romans 1:20 poster by Martin LaBar

Romans 1:20 poster

This is an attempt to illustrate Romans 1:20b, a verse that indicates that nature, "the things that have been made," is one of the ways that God reveals Himself to us.

Other means of revelation include the activity of the Holy Spirit, the Bible, our conscience, the church, and, most importantly, Christ, Himself.

I have argued, here, on my blog, that this verse, and the truth behind it, are a powerful reason that Christians should try to keep the environment in as good a condition as possible.

The original photo is here.

This poster, or graphic, uses the English Standard Version of the Bible, which, although copyrighted, allows such use. See here for copyright information. I thank the publishers of the ESV.

Small orange morning glory flowers by Martin LaBar

Small orange morning glory flowers

This flower seems to be a member of the morning glory (Convulvulaceae) family. It was growing along US 80, a few miles/kilometers from Savannah, Georgia. The shot was taken in the morning. The flowers were perhaps an inch/3 cm across. I like the buds in this photo, too.

Amanita mushroom, not fully opened, with waterdrops, flash, otherwise unretouched by Martin LaBar

Amanita mushroom, not fully opened, with waterdrops, flash, otherwise unretouched

This mushroom opened up all the way, later. It was about a decimeter/3 inches tall here, and growing along the road that runs by our house. Thank God for the rain that caused this organism to put up this reproductive body. We needed it badly at the time.

I think that the larger sizes are spectacular.
