Hiatus coming: Spider on web back of church, with shadow by Martin LaBar (going on hiatus)

Hiatus coming: Spider on web back of church, with shadow

I was wandering around the outside of our church, with our camera, looking for something to photograph. A boy noticed me and the camera, and suggested that I photograph this animal, which I hadn't seen yet. So I did. Thanks.

"The spider taketh hold with her hands, and is in kings' palaces." Proverbs 30:28 (KJV).

I'm going on what I expect will be a hiatus of a week or so. I'm thankful to God, and to you!

Jude's Jewels (see her comment below) has identified this as Araneaus diadematus. Lynette S. (see her comment) says that she thinks it's Argiope aurantia. Some others concur, and I guess I'll go with that identification.

Maple leaves 1, Coldwater, Michigan by Martin LaBar (going on hiatus)

Maple leaves 1, Coldwater, Michigan

A few maple leaves, probably on a sugar maple tree, hanging in a yard near the hospital where my mother passed away last month. I went out and took a few photos, as Coldwater, Michigan, was full of fall colors at the time.

The palmate venation can be clearly seen -- there are three major veins, all coming from a central point. Some leaves with palmate veins have five major veins.

This is just the way it came out of the camera -- SOOC -- except for cropping a bit.

Isn't God a great artist? Thanks for looking.

Nandina leaves with dew drops by Martin LaBar (going on hiatus)

Nandina leaves with dew drops

The title says it. One of our Nandina domestica plants, with morning dew on the leaves.

One of the attractions of these plants is the leaf color. However, there is a down side. The plants spread underground, and it's almost impossible to get rid of them.

More detail available at the larger sizes.

Thanks for looking.

Purple berries, beautyberry bush, unretouched by Martin LaBar (going on hiatus)

Purple berries, beautyberry bush, unretouched

This plant was growing along a dirt road within an hour's drive of Savannah, Georgia. (We went off US80 onto the dirt road to get some photos.) It's a beautyberry, genus Callicarpa americana, and it seemed to be growing as a native wild plant. This was a shrub, no more than 2 meters/yards tall. The fruit was between one and two centimeters in diameter, i believe.

I'm guessing that the fruit is not very edible, or some of it would have shown signs of being eaten. The Wikipedia says that this is a "survival fruit." See also the YouTube video linked in the comment by lika2009, below.

More detail is visible at the larger sizes. Magnificent color, isn't it? Isn't God a great artist?

Grandson on his great-aunt's tractor by Martin LaBar (going on hiatus)

Grandson on his great-aunt's tractor

Our second grandson, Mr. Cheerful Perpetual Moltion, enjoying the steering wheel, buttons, levers, etc., on his great-aunt's garden tractor. Our older daughter brought him when the family was called in for my mother's impending death, and we are so glad that she did. He seemed to have a great time (he always does).

Don't worry -- I don't have any grandson photos to post after this one.
