Yes, I have both but prefer the older and cheaper 60mm lens, even though the 105mm VR lens is better on paper. It is probably more a case of personal preference, as I got use the the 60mm. Most will call this a benefit of the 105mm lens, but I find that standing much further away from the subject with the 105mm lens makes it more difficult to photograph in some of the places that I take the photographs. The 105mm VR lens is much heavier than the compact 60mm lens, which can make a bit of a difference when you are carrying all your gear on a nature walk. I also find that in cases where you are in the "Great Outdoors" in a windy & dusty environment (where you don't want to change lenses), the wider 60mm lens is a bit better for capturing landscapes as well.

These have (more or less) been my same thoughts on the subject, which I would prefer to be closer to than far-away. I lean quite heavily toward the 60mm as a first lense although I'll probably buy the 'kit' as a reasonable package anyway. Thanks for the feedback, Martin!
