The change I'm after

My daughter, Lucy, was born 4 days before the laws in California changed. At her birth, it was not recognized that, just because Southern Girl and I belonged to each other, she belonged to me.

That's still not recognized in most states.

How does the laws in Canada and other other countries compare to the Ununited States of America?

The laws in Canada are a lot better than the laws here. And, of course, there are some states that recognize civic unions. It is a problem, though, that it's a state-by-state issue. Especially if many of relatives live in states that don't recongize it.

Ohio is one of those states that wouldn't recognize your union. (I voted against the amendment stripping those rights.) I hate when hate finds its way into the law.
