The Train Enthusiast

My Nephew Ciaran loves Thomas the Tank Engine. My dad (his grandad) organised a trip to the Severn Valley Railway to experience a day with Thomas and Friends. It was a fabulous day and however much Ciaran loved seeing Thomas, I think riding these magnificent trains really amazed him. He seemed to love feeling the wind in his hair, experiencing the smell of the steam engine and seeing these old and beautifully maintained carriages.

I had to lean quite a way out to get the shot and wait for a good bank so I could get the train extending into the distance.

@Acerifolia: That is so funny because he thinks he is Buzz Lightyear... whenever he is asked to do something that he doesn't want to do he says "I'm Buzz Lightyear!", as if that will help him get his own way... LOL!

On Utata's Member Services page, there is a link for Project Submissions (http://www.utata.org/memberprojectsubmit.php ) - it gives instructionson how to submit.

I submitted something to the Trains project the other day, though, and it isn't showing up. So I am wondering if that project might be closed to new submissions?

@Tom & Mark: Submissions to the major projects (trains, movies, homage, etc.) currently involves some manual work to add the photo to the project - we don't just go off the tags for those.

Your submission will most likely be sat in someone's mailbox waiting to be dealt with. Things are a bit busy right now behind the scenes as we're updating the back-end systems, so there might be a bit of a delay before you see it appear.

One of the reasons I chose it as this years favourite is that my wife and I are expecting a child (boy) in February 2007. This shot is of my nephew but it (and comments like yours) makes me look forward to having a children of my own :-)

It's so exciting if they do use this shot that my photo will be on the front cover of such a prestigious magazine... how cool!

Absolutely smashing picture. Just one slight observation it wouldn't have been steam he could smell in this picture but Diesel fumes from a Western Class 52, no wonder the lad was so thrilled and amazed. Even better than steam I would say.!!!
By the way is this a digital photo. Excellent control of shutter speed and light. Wide aperture perhaps.?
