longtail bike at work

longtail bike at work by Mark Stosberg.
Kurt made custom pouches for the custom longtail frame he built. The material used is what you usually find in fold-out couches-- super sturdy! The top of the rack is plywood. Here's he hauling two printers, a scanner, a keyboard and various other supplies.

Right now the two sides of the pouch are just tied together with string. He may upgrade those connectors with small caribiniers. The current design also lacks a frame to hold the pouches away from the wheels and derailler. It's working OK without them, but wil also likely be evolved.

Jim, people like Ken Kifer have used solar power to power a laptop while bicycling. For Kurt's style of bike, they do sell a commercial blender attachment that is pedal-powered. Kurt's load was e-waste, so there was no electricity needed.

Hey Mark and all you bicycle wielding Richmond area folks, some of my friends are "organizing" a critical mass in Richmond. The only thing different from the normal CMs is that it'll be done on the last saturday of the month at noon. The August group will be meeting at the Richmond K-Mart and plans to do a ride to The Trader's Depot (the old Robert's building).

Everyone should check it out and pass it on to your friends!

Sounds great, Ryan. I encourage you to join bikerichmond.org and announce it to the ~45 list members there. I suspect you'll pick up a few more riders, possibly including myself.

( I could post the announcement myself, but lately the list seems to just be used for me posting announcements.... ).

You could also submit it to progressivewaynecounty.org, and possibly waynet.org, although the latter is less prepared for handling grassroots events (and the moderator is on vacation).
