bakfiets, car seat, stoller and Model T

Baby foot.
bakfiets, car seat, stoller and Model T by Mark Stosberg.
This was the successful first trial run with the stroller (The Silver Cross "Pop" model) strapped onto the bakfiets along with the car seat. We used bungie cords attached to the same points where the weather canopy attaches to the secure the stroller.

In the background is a Model T still here from the T Party.

Overall this system worked well, and still left some room under the stroller to store stuff in the box. The loading process could be even faster by adding some more points for the bungie cords to connect to.

The baby was on board, probably sleeping again.

Mark,
There's actually an adaptor to carry the stroller vertically from the rear carrier. Its made by Steco, who also makes our front and rear carriers:
www.steco.nl/pages/consumer/index.php?taal=nl &page=Pr...

That way the stroller doesn't stick out on each side and doesn't take any space in the box. Those American baby seats are already huge enough!

Groeten,
Henry

ps: there's a baby foot visible in the photo. I assume it was connected to a baby ;-)

Thanks for the tip, Henry. We'll keep that option in mind. I like how the accessory even avoids taking up the space where panniers go. That's truly maximizing the hauling capacity of the bike.

Hey Mark, pretty cool !

If they are somehow available over there I'd go for the 'Buggy-Mee' thing as Henry suggests.

I used to have one
(It got stolen along with the bike it was attached to).

I've tried lots of ways to transport strollers
(in the bak, on the handlebars, on my back, on the frame, sideways on the back, lengthwise on the back, dragging it along behind the bike, you name it I tried it) but I found the 'Buggy-Mee' the most comfortable way of doing it. Mainly because any sideways configuration makes your bike stick out on both sides. If a car passes you too closely (Damstraat Taxi anyone?) it could hit the stroller. Depends on the traffic a bit I guess.

The only thing is that it's really made for those ultralight-take-on-the-airplane type of strollers (they say max 5 Kg I think) and mine was just over 5 Kg. That made it slightly wobbly, but also because the bike it was attached to was a cheap Opoefiets from the Gamma with a crappy frame.

On the bakfiets it should be a more solid feel :).

The Bakfiets appears almost as large as the Model T!

Did you rig an attachment for the car seat, or is it merely sitting in the box?

It is attached, using the LATCH standard through eyelet bolts in the front drain holes.
