Last day of school

So this is the end, today was the last exam for my major at HEC (graduate business school). We were going to take the traditional end-of-year picture, when I thought "hey, let's spice it up!" :)

So here it is, I present to you the Majeure économie HEC 2007.

This is a stereographic projection of an equirectangular panorama, shot hand-held and stitched from 60 pictures. .... yes, shot hand-held, and yet I'm on the picture! :D

It's funny I was searching for stereographic projections and this image came up on like page 15 and I thought, "gee that's funny I haven't seen this one before, I thought I'd seen all of Manu's pictures..." then I go to my home page, and see it is brand new.

This is a great shot, I've wanted to do one like this for a while, but I don't belong to any groups or have enough patient friends or a good reason to get enough people together for this kind of shot.

Have you done the inverse of this projection yet?

Hi, I'm an admin for a group called Stereographic Projections, and we'd love to have your photo added to the group.

I dig these shadows. I'm a bit troubled by the size of the legs, and I don't remember having this impression with the planetoid version of other group photos. Maybe we find it more natural to have la grosse tête?

Anyway, congratulation on you all. It must be a relief.

    wow, very cool result!

They really must be patient... if this was taken with your camera! I find the people à contre-jour to be a little too dark. Did you tonemap? we'll we see an equirectangular? in any case, congrats on your last exam (and now for some serious work on your thesis!)

Yay ! Great idea indeed ! Congrats.

    Thank you everyone!
IDComics I used the same method I use for my Planetoids
Pisco Bandito Yes I've done it, but I'll post it later.
gadl Relief, yes... however as Seb points out, I still have a thesis (well, a mémoire) to do, so technically I'm not really done. :)
Seb Przd Yes it was taken with my camera (edit in the description)! I just replaced it with a tonemapped version (I had just corrected the curves), but I'm not sure I prefer it. I won't post the equirectangular, the sky is too messed up (I'm still shooting hand-held with a 36mm...)

  17. Seb Przd (75 months ago | reply)

The tonemapping does really bad things with the underexposed areas. Maybe you're right, the previous one is better.

    the best!!great!!!

  19. Manυ (75 months ago | reply)

Seb Przd Lol, as you were writing I was preparing another version to upload (which I have): an intermediary, not tonemapped, but reworked more than just the curves.

Renata Diem Thank you! as for taking a vacation now... I wish I could, but not just yet: first finish (start?) my master's thesis, then find a job, and then a vacation :(

If your thesis is on Flickr, then I guess this is field material. If not...
