Djedefre

Pyramid of Djedefre, Abu Rawash
The monument is badly preserved today. When the site was visited by Perring and Vyse in 1839 the pyramid was in a much better condition than it is today, because it has been used as a quarry for stone since Roman times. But it would appear that the main destruction of the pyramid was done during Roman and Coptic times, (following the construction of a Coptic monastery in the area.) and did not begin before the New Kingdom.
There are such huge piles of granite chips of the granite casing blocks that it of course means that this monument was at least half finished and probably more, as the recent excavations by a French-Swiss archaeological team under the directorship of Michel Valloggia found out.
