From Garden to Table: The Importance of Buying Food Locally

Saturday, Jan 28, 10-1 @ the Manchester Community Center

Ever wonder what makes local, organic food that much better? Find out from our family friendly program Garden to Table. This event is sponsored by the Manchester-by-the-Sea Library in association with theCape Ann Farmers Market. It takes place on January 28, 2012 from 10AM – 1PM, at the Manchester-by-the-Sea Community Center. Various Cape Ann food distributers discuss the importance of buying food locally and what it takes to bring that food to your table. Learn about the obstacles and benefits of what they do, and why it is important for our community, our environment and ourselves.There is no charge to attend. There will be selling, sampling, and information supplied from 10 am-12pm and then from 12pm-1pm there will be a panel discussion. Some of our guests will include Maggie Mehaffey of Mehaffey Farm, Catherine Steinhoff of Sea Street Soups, Niki Bogin of Cape Ann Farmer's Market, Gloucester Back Yard Farmers, Shady Oaks Organics Mushrooms, The Open Door Food Pantry, The Trustees of the Reservations and Moraine Farm.
