Interesting.
Are you sure its not just a greasemonkey
script though? :P

I got it too, and I don't use greasemonkey.
my google was normal one minute, changed the
next, and I did nothing to the browser in
between.

Actually, it's a nice, elegant (if modest)
refresh to the design -- it makes Google even
simpler n' cleaner.

Hey, I think it looks cool. Google
always seems to see around the horizon and
see the future.

It looks actually more minimalist and less cluttered than the
current page.

If you're wondering the graph represents the
number of results that were found on the
search.

nice, but id like to see more useful stuff
down the rest of the left side. seems like a
waste to dedicate so much space for half a
dozen graphs.

I'd imagine the left side will 'grow' over
time (down the way) to include more data
about your search. Although I'm surprised
this doesn't have BETA slapped on it! LOL

I haven't had this page come up (maybe
because I'm in Thailand?), but I like the
look of it. I use Google extensively, so
hope the redesigned page makes it my way.

current look better.

I'm not that taken on it. I like the current
approach which has icons involved to
differentiate between the different sections.
3 columns just seem a bit too much when they
all have the same formatting.

i just love how the second result for 'corn'
brings back "Corn Cam - An image of a
corn field which is updated every 15
minutes".

That is a cool little add, but I do see that
greasemonkey icon bottom right there...
I'd take it from google though - that's
neat. Good way to clear up some of that
clutter up top and get more results
displayed.

This is hardly the "new interface"
that I was expecting... this is nothing but a
couple of elements shifted on the page.

Well, after looking around on Digg.. it seems
that a lot of people have been getting this.
So I really don't think it fake.
Now the question is, is Google just testing
with this for a few users, and has no plan of
switching over, or are they going to use this
full time eventually?

I have seen this for most of January, if my
memory is correct. I had first thought it
was just my Firefox when upgraded to 1.5 with
new extensions.

re: is this just a % or will everyone see
this one day?
google, like amazon, etc. is doing an A-B
test. for instance, they might look at a
metric like click through over to the other
search types. if that metric goes up, this
might make it's way over to 100% of users.

The new upcoming / under dev Google search
page looks quiet swanky. But overall it’s a
little bit crowded. And moreover when / if
newer aspects are added to a page, it takes
up more time to download, on the users
screen. When it comes to Hi-Speed Broadband
users it’s not such a big deal. But if you
will consider the average surfer around the
world, who doesn’t use/have a Hi-Speed
Broadband connection, it matters.
So the main focus of Google should be to
display the results the same way & in
same speed it is being today. But anyways the
Google search results page definitely needs
an overhaul & I guess they will do the
best for the same.

I would hope, if it is truly a Google change,
that it is available as an option and not
required. As a tablet user, I see it as more
difficult for anybody using a portrait (as
opposed to landscape) screen. It cuts me off
from all those lovely advertisements! Now,
if it is smart enough to detect the aspect
ratio of the screen and switch
automatically....THAT would be ideal.

Interesting - I am not seeing this with
Firefox 1.5 on a Mac.
The 30,000 hits comes from being
prominently featured in an InfoWorld article.

I knew I wasn't going crazy! Today I was
searching and all of a sudden it looked just
like it looked in your image. I was like
"what the heck". I thought it was
something in my firefox but i remember i dont
have any extensions installed for it on this
pc. Anyway I reloaded and it was gone.
I told some people and I had no proof. Mow
I found this image in your flickr. Phew good
to know I'm not going psycho! heh.

I don't like it. It seems more cluttered now,
and there is just a big gap there of wasted
space. I think they should have an option
that you could change the interface.
