Firstly thanks for the comments on my last pic, it got published last weekend in the national newspaper -NZ Herald, which I was very pleased about.

I almost didn't get this pic of Whale Bay above as I decided to stop off at a view point (see last picture image in the comments) and after a few shots there promptly left my Lee filter holder on the roof of the car and drove off. After driving for a few km I heard a metallic bouncing sound and knew straight away what I had done. Well that is after checking I had my camera and all lenses.....Within 3 minutes of searching the road side I found my metal wide angle adapter but no holder. Having given up the search 30 minutes later after a few close calls with cars on this tight bendy road, I had one last look on the roof and found my filter holder caught up in the roof rack !!!LOL - can't believe the adaptor and holder separated and I somehow missed seeing the holder. One note of importance the adaptor was undamaged apart from a few small scratches - well done Lee for making robust gear, badly done me!!! All I could imagine whilst searching was buying a new set of gear from Lee in the UK, ouch - my wallet was shaking at the thought and beer needed to be consumed to stop this :-).

Anyway the pic- The horizon sun is obscured by Mt Karioi when you shoot from the points at Raglan at this time of the year so difficult to get a full sunset sky when facing Northerly. These bays have some cool rock form and surf and quite a calming spot to escape too.

Thought I'd start 2012 with a bit of action. Took this in Raglan during our "summer" holiday. Haven't done much picture taking over the last 2 months due to family and work but all good. Certainly enjoyed some R&R and surf here. The kids loved this skate bowl and I took the opportunity to take a few snaps not only of them but a few skaters and this dude that could sure make his bike fly on a somewhat gloomy day.

Getting toward the end of our whirl wind trip we came to Tongaporutu, where the Three Sisters coastal rock formation is (now two sisters due to erosion). There is also Maori petroglyphs carved into cave rock walls . You can get there at low tide by walking along the Tongaporutu River mouth. By luck (as it was on our route from Coromandel to New Plymouth) we arrived just after the turn of the tide and did a high speed walk out to the coast - we knew we only had 15-20 minutes before the fast incoming tide would chop our path back off so this was a very quick shoot. These places get a fair bit of photographic attention so we tried to get some different views with the 10 Stop ND filter. It was very windy too so pic's that weren't blurred was a bonus. Got a bit wet on the way back - gee that tide sure flies in & easy to get caught out - the river has a very strong current and you wouldn't want to get in it!

Another from the trip last November, had it marked private sometime ago as I had posted a few misty images of similar nature but thought it should be released to keep the pics ticking over. I do enjoy the human element at the moment.
