I think most people of that size would just stay inside sad, getting worse- she is out having fun, looking around, being active- who knows she may in the first stage of getting healthy eating right.. maybe in a year she'll be thinner. The real facts are that some people are in fact .... often never diagnosed... actually morbidly obese as a result of addiction.
Eating to the extremes that cause extreme obesity is usually an eating disorder that is connected with mental illness.
Just as anorexia requires professional intervention and support so do a lot of morbidly obese people.
Some of these comments are stunningly cruel and inhumane.

Listen I would be the first person to kick the ass of anyone who harassed a person on the street... actually I once chased these three stupid eurotrash girls who were yelling things at overweight people, a disabled person, etc... really nasty stuff, I got so pissed I chased them around Florence, Italy threatening them until my boyfriend caught up with me and said you will get arrested... I think you scared them off, let's go get a drink. The woman's face is not in this photo. She is basically anonymous. Taking this photo didn't change a single person's view on anything. People had feelings before viewing this photo, and they have them after viewing this photo. I wasn't expecting to change anyone's mind. Newsflash: The thread was open for comments, so I made some. Two comments do not a crusade make. They do, however, bring some badly needed balance into this conversation.

SHE would recognize herself. The chances of her finding this photo and all the hurtful comments are minuscule (although they increase with every successive use the CC license permits). But nobody here has a crystal ball and can definitively say that she will never find this page or see herself ridiculed on some other more highly trafficked site that somebody plastered her photo on because the copyright holder gave license to do so.

And if she were to actually find this picture, she should seriously go play the lottery because those chances are pretty damn slim. Although, of course, it seems that your biggest problem with this picture seems to be that it's got a CC license. Gee, Malingering. You'd better change the rights on your pictures now because now even THEY are offensive to someone.

My sense (and a lot of other people's sense) of humor is obviously different from yours. The sooner you get over that, the happier everyone will be. Hurray for world diversity.

I thought part of the objection was the Creative Commons license, but wskrz reminded me that instead of wasting time here debating about needles and haystacks, I need to be searching YouTube for my ver own needly clips of my ass from that tv show so that I can sue NBC/Universal AND Google. Hurray!!
