In all seriousness, I've seen a lot of photos of blonde Asians in Tokyo, just in feature photos of the streetscapes. Since I wasn't looking in that direction at the time, I can't testify as to breast implants; but I do know that eye surgery to create a more "Western" appearance has been in vogue for some time.

It was one of my older Chinese relatives. As she got older, her eyelids got saggy and started to obstruct her vision. So she had to have them trimmed. Like an eyelid tuck. But that's what the double eyelid surgry is... I guess her Chinese-ness was detrimental on her vision so she had to have the surgery to make her more Western. It's ironic. Not the Alanis Morrissette ironic. The real ironic.

Actually it's spelled Ganguro - my spelling mistake. It means "black face" in Japanese. Its populartity in Japan was very limited and has waned, but elements of the look migrated to Los Angeles, and have been with us ever since. The name may have something to do with the reverse raccon eye effect caused by light eye makeup on tanned skin.

The practice of dying your hair blond in Japan like this is called chapatsu which means "brown hair".
