Update: I wrote a whole bunch of words about my hospitalization here.
So...this is what my back looks like at the moment. It's covered with a dressing that is airtight, and the hose is attached to a sort of vacuum thing in the wall that is is applying negative pressure and sucking out extra fluids (eww) which drain into the cylinder in the 2nd photo, while helping the wound to close. The white dressing is a bit bigger than the big gash that was left after 3 operations to dig out all the infected tissue - the gash is about 20 cm (7 inches) long and 2cm (1 inch) wide, and sort of stapled together or so.
So basically I have this plastic hose attached to my back all day and night, which I have to drag around. Thank god the hose is just long enough for me to reach the toilet in the bathroom. (They originally wanted me to use a POTTY but I threw a tantrum and refused, and demonstrated the reachability of the hose.)
I've been in the hospital now for 2 weeks. I may get out in a week, but I'll have to continue the negative pressure treatment at home for a while. I guess I'll have to wait till next year to go to the beach.
And all that from an insect bite that went horribly wrong.
What a summer I'm having eh.
