501739 21'' Gillott lugless track bike detail

An original chain tug or tensioner. The oval steel plate fits over the 2 pegs on the dropout. Frame was built in 1950 and is the 1,739th frame built since May 1945. This from the frame number 50-1739. Seen on ebay Dec 2011 Thanks Ian nm

The property of a gentleman in New Zealand this ultra rare Gillott was nearly destroyed in the 2011 Christchurch earthquake. The 2010 earthquake damaged the storeroom where it was kept so it was moved to a safe place where it was spotted, bought and now restored. Subsequently its original home was demolished.
