Crane Accident on E. 13th Street

Crane Accident on E. 13th Street by Lindsay Beyerstein.
MANHATTAN, NY--Rescue workers inspecting the crane after a 4-ton chunk of metal fell off and hit a taxi.

No one was killed or seriously injured. The taxi was totaled but the driver was virtually unscathed.

However, the authorities were afraid that the entire crane was unstable and might topple over onto the building across the street.

You can see in the picture that the entire crane is listing just a couple degrees to the left.

It's amazing nobody was killed! Did you see it all happening? It must have been something to watch. Good job you had your camera.

I didn't see it happen. I happened to have my camera with me because there was a union rally that I was planning to cover on my lunch break. Unfortunately, I couldn't get off work in time, but I had all my gear--and by the time I realized what was going on, all my groceries! Hence the motion blur in some of the shots...
