day 29: come out, come out, wherever you are!

day 29: come out, come out, wherever you are! by Ms. Pants.
Cool Feeling: Your best friend Jaime calling you in Texas from San Diego to giggle about the flier for National Coming Out Day plastered all over your old alma mater that happens to have your face on it. Not just your face, but you, stoned off your face making weird with a flamingo pen. (The pen has a whole other story to it.)

Turns out your old roommate thought the photo was cute and decided to give it over to the LGBTSU for the flier without asking your permission.

The kicker? You're straight (mostly) and your roommate who gave the photo of you for the flier? Global Assault Lesbian. (The angry kind who needs everyone in the world to know that SHE IS A LESBIAN JUSTLOOKATHERARMPITHAIR!!)

To say I was angry would be an understatement. It's not like we didn't talk. She could have asked. But I felt it in rather poor taste to use a photo of a girl who identifies herself as relatively straight for a coming out flier--it seemed against the point. If they'd have asked, I'd have gladly given permission. The friendship with the roommate ended then and there.

And Jaime? She totally regrets sending me the flier because I won't give it back. But I promised her I'd post this up for today's 365. Funny, the year it was posted (2000, I think), October 11 was also a Wednesday.

hahaha. i clicked on this because i saw the sdsu piece in the thumbnail. i should graduate from there in may. hey, i'm 15 years older than many of the students, but so what?

i had someone use my picture in a fishing magazine, w/o my permission. i was pissed, too (it was promoting a different boat than the one we were originally on. my husband worked on the original boat. not cool to have your wife's pic adverting for another boat). that friendship ended right there.

if i see that same flyer again, i'll let you know. lmao!!!

LOL. That is pretty quirky. Once of those, "I nevers" that people wouldn't guess is true.

It's always 'so great' to see your own photo's in articles where you never expect them. When I was 13 years old I ended up in a publication that described the danger about chemical factories in rural area's. When the photo was taken, my friend and I thought it was for the Dutch rowing board magazine. With a spyglass you could see me & my friend in a boat, but most of the photo was all about iron pipes.

Ps. I guess there were no volunteers left with hairy armpits for the flyer in 2000 ?

Oh the good ol' SDSU memories. I complely forgot about this flyer. I have to say that now I think it is hysterical, but I remember how pissed you were at the time.
I think that she may have been my least favorite of your roommates.

Back when I was a freshman in college, a friend of mine and I decided to starve ourselves all day, get dressed up and go pig out at Olive Garden during the Neverending Pasta Bowl thing. Neither of us drove b/c we couldn't have cars on campus when we were freshmen, so we got all dolled up and rode the bus to Olive Garden. everyone was staring at us and we were convinced that it was b/c we were just SO HOT. our very gay waiter was exceptionally sweet to us all through dinner, so he got a hefty tip. we rode back to campus and walked around arm and arm along the dimly lit sidewalks until I stopped and looked at something written in sidewalk chalk. it read, "Happy Coming Out Day 1997!" finally, it was all VERY VERY clear. we both doubled over, laughing our asses off. of all the days in the year to get dressed up and essentially go on what looked like a date, we picked "National Coming Out Day." good job.

Yeah, I was crying buckets when that friendship faded away. In my mind, as it faded it did that little blip of a flash when a star dies. It even made the same sound when pac-man spins around and dies.

She was just a horrible person. A vile human being. Bad, horrible, F, fail.

How do you really feel, Brandon?? :-) I think everyone was collectively happy at the fading of that one.

Evil incarnate.
