A Weird Sign

Does this sign have any purpose? It's in the middle of nowhere in New Mexico. (UPDATE: I just geotagged the precise location of this sign!)

Ah, the New Mexican rest stop. :) The results are tabulated by a computer deep underground. In 2020, those results will be loaded onto a massive hard drive, which will then be placed on a rocket, and shot into the sun.

This is SOOOO New Mexico. I am sure it has a purpose. Magdalenus, I don't think New Mexico had computers in 1956, or 1996 for that matter. Except the aliens and the military and I don't think this is part of Area 51 or the missle base.
It probably connects to a casino somewhere that either runs the rest stop or wants its business. Free toilets to get you into the slot area. It also represents New Mexico's idea of a) communication with the rest of the world and b) self determination.
