Victoria Wood visits MAG Lao IMG_1501

During the filming of a BBC appeal in Lao PDR in aid of MAG, Victoria Wood visited Thachock village, known as 'Bomb Village'. Many of the houses and farm buildings in the village rest on stilts made from the outer casings of cluster bombs dropped on Lao PDR during the Vietnam War forty years ago.

The casings are also used to build fences and as growing pots for plants.

An estimated 80 million cluster submunitions, the small bombs contained within these outer casings, failed to explode on impact and litter Lao PDR's landscape. Every week there are casualties as people disturb UXO (unexploded ordnance).

MAG is working hard to remove and destroy UXO, returning safe land to some of Lao PDR's poorest citizens. This enables them to live, farm and work without fear.
