Su-27 Flanker (10)

Dorsal air brake?
That's right.
Su-27 Flanker (10) by Mad physicist.
LEGO blueish grey, sand blue and mid blue give a reasonably accurate representation of the actual aircraft's camouflage.

Great job, the Su-27 is one of my all time favourite aircraft.

I think I've tld you before on Lugnet, but I'm alway impressed with how your camo comes out.

Yes, you did write that on lugnet. I suppose it's easier on something that's this large (relatively). It's a shame LEGO seem to have stopped producing sand blue.

very nice! I'd actually like to see this modified into a SU-32 Fullback sometime

That would be a complete rebuild, from the ground up. The Fullback may be based on the Flanker, but I doubt they have many parts in common. I think I'll keep the Flanker for the time being. It's a much nicer aircraft to look at. Thanks for the suggestion, anyway. The one Russian jet that I am most likely to build in the non-too-distant future is an Su-25.

I love the nose! Especially after completing the Su-51 Fafnir, I have come to understand the coplication in making good fighter radomes. One fighter I'd like to see someone do a really detailed MiG-31.

I agree that the nose is one of the trickiest bits of a fighter to build and it's usually the part I start with. LEGO have made our lives a bit easier with the curved wedge parts, though. Since I first used them on my F-16 I've been using them on almost all my other aircraft too.

At first glance I thought it was an aggressor F-18. I keep forgetting there is a reason why they camouflage the aggressors in those colors. Russian aircraft and vehicles are so under represented in any toy "medium."

Indeed. They even paint fake intakes and wing leading edges on them to make them look more like MiGs or Flankers. I don;t know whether they are under-represented as toys, although perhaps they are in the US. The few toy-stores that visit always seem to have a fairly large Russian contingent in their model kits.

A small nit: I believe the optical radar should be placed slightly off-center, to the right of the aircraft's centerline. :)

The position of the IRST differs from one version of the Flanker to the next. On many modern developments it is placed off the centreline, mainly because of the incorporation of an in-flight refuelling probe. On the basic Su-27 'Flanker B', represented by my my LEGO model it is on the centreline however.
