Bascom Hall

Bascom Hall by Madison Guy.
University of Wisconsin-Madison.

I saw this family group on Bascom Hill from across the street and loved the way the little girl was pointing up the hill at Bascom Hall. I risked life and limb racing heedlessly through heavy traffic on Park Street to capture the scene before the people changed positions or simply left. I got there in one piece and shot my photos. The funny thing is, despite all my hurry to capture the spontaneity of the moment, the final result looks totally posed, even to me, the photographer. Go figure.

Bascom was once called Main Hall, and it had a dome. See this 1915 photo from vfm4's 1915, Madison, Wisconsin Set. I provided some background about Bascom Hall and provided a link to photos of the fire that destroyed the dome in my first post about these images in my blog, Letter from Here.
