Santa Maria

This a replica of Christopher Columbus’s Flag ship “ THE SANTA MARIA “ ... it was built on the island of Madeira (July 1997-Jully 1998) in the fishing village of Camara de Lobos by Robert Wijntje, a dutchman and by local craftsmen, to celebrate Columbus’s journey across the Atlantic .... to discover, what they believed was the Indies in Asia .... but in fact they discovered the Caribbean and were the first European to set foot on the American soil.

Columbus (born in 1451) spent many years through the Portuguese Merchant navy in Porto Santo / Madeira and married Dona Filipa Perestrello e Moniz daughter of the first governor of Madeira.

You can sail with this vessel along the coast of Madeira .... taking you back to the 15th century. Trip with Sta Maria

I've been on the Santa Maria, it's a nice ride. If anyone wants to go during the summer, I recommend that you wear a bathing suit -- you can plunge in an area where the water is crystal-clear.
