Liquid Time
08 august 2008 Friday.
One of my friends was flying off on Thursday from the US to Australia, and was commenting that, by a quirk of timezones, Friday wouldn’t exist this week. Thought about how long the flight would take (at least 24 hrs) and how much time zone difference he’d be skipping over (14 hrs) and realised that even if you take off fr US on Thursday at 11am and fly non-stop to Australia, you’ll only get there at 1am on Saturday!!
The very thought made me marvel at the liquidity of time and space, and how numerical 1 o’clock, 2 o’clock is just a man-made concept for quantifying the passing of time, a God-made entity. Brought to mind what C S Lewis said about how God is above all time and space. Which is amazing, isnt it? No matter how mind-boggling Thurs 11am and Sat 1am is, or how Friday has been vaporised to a mere few hours in the air while you’re whizzing across timezones, time is still passing, and God is still there. Way!
