Along the fence

Along the fence

For each final photograph, I'll have shot loads of film. I suppose people don't see all that. But when someone looks at a piece of work, they know something has gone into it, even if they can't lay their finger on what it is. (Catherine Yass)

Sunday Light 50mm prime

Sunday Light 50mm prime

Life is about turning up. The more you get yourself out there, whether you wake up at 5:00 a.m. to pouring rain or not, the more you’re likely to experience the wonderful happenings that are going on all around you. Sometimes the most interesting visual phenomena occur when you least expect it. Other times, you think you’re getting something amazing and the photographs turn out to be boring and predictable. So I think that’s why, a long time ago, I consciously tried to let go of artist’s angst, and instead just hope for the best and enjoy it. I love the journey as much as the destination. If I wasn’t a photographer, I’d still be a traveler. - Michael Kenna - in "Photographer's Forum Interview" - Winter 2003 by Claire Sykes

Waiting on the Dawn

Waiting on the Dawn

The word beauty is unavoidable … it accounts for my decision to photograph … There appeared a quality, beauty seemed the only appropriate word for it, in certain photographs, and I am compelled to live with the vocabulary of this new sight … through over many years [I] still find it embarrassing to use the word beauty, I fear I will be attacked for it, but I still believe in it. - Robert Adams, On Being a Photographer

In so many cases the photograph is a momentary thing that is soon going to change. Once it’s gone, it’s gone. We have to put it in the box when it happens. - William Albert Allard, The Joy of Photographing People by Eastman Kodak Staff , ISBN: 0201116944 , Page: 167
