from News Chronicle I-Spy Book cover c1955
As a young boy I really liked these books so I bought a few off eBay so I could relive flicking through the pages again. A real nostalgia trip.

And how very useful they were, too! I learnt so much from them as a kid. They made everyday things interesting, and taught me a lot about subjects i would never otherwise have taken notice of. I never sent one off to Big Chief I-Spy, Wigwam by the Water, and I never had a badge, but I got a lot of enjoyment and painless education from the books. (They also kept me quiet on car journeys and the like, which must have been a relief to my parents.)

Same here but I'd forgotten about the Big Chief, wigwam and Red Skins even though one of the badges I have has TRIBE on it.

Maybe I did join the tribe, thinking about it. I remember a book of codes (very simple transposition codes) which could be used to decode the mystery message featured in the I-Spy panel in the Daily Mail. The codes had suitable names like 'moccasin', and you looked them up to translate the message. I'd forgotten that!
