President Kennedy wanted to achieve a goal of putting a man on the moon before the decade was over. At that time, the U.S. feared that it was falling behind the U.S.S.R. both in technological advances and international prestige. This picture can say a thousand words but only one comes to mind. "Amazing". How could we put a man on the moon in 1969? With the technology we have today I could understand that, but not in 1969. There were attempts in history to send a man to the moon but failed. But on July 20, 1969 Neil Armstrong became the first man on the moon. His historic words will always be remembered forever. " One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind" To actually walk on the moon the astronauts needed to wear a space suit with a black mounted, portable life support system that controlled the oxygen temperature and pressure inside their suit. This picture shows how far we have come and how far we will go in the future.
