I kept hearing this guy before I saw him. This was from about 50 yards away, which is about the closest he would let me get. Beautiful bird. This is on Konza Prairie (Konza Prairie Biological Research Station). The thorny tree he chose to perch on is the aptly named Cockspur Hawthorn.

Taken from the window of California Zephyr and processed in Lightroom 3 and Photoshop. My first attempt at compositing with textures, blend modes and added grain. I need to update my copyright watermark. This building was surrounded with a chain link fence and there were piles of roofing tiles on the trackside. I don't know if the building is in a state of mid-restoration, or mid-destruction.

Trying out Lightroom 4 Beta and a new lens (Nikkor 18-200 ƒ3.5-5.6 VR). Both seem to work quite well. The image is a little soft because I was shooting through a window.

Had a nice frost the other morning and I made time to go to shoot some extreme closeups of the frost-ringed leaves. This was about 8 feet from my front door.
