My guess is that this ladybird is only a couple of hours old - they have no spots when they are newly hatched, so this one has had a little time for them to develop but the outer wings still appear translucent.

I know he won't make everybody's day but I was quite chuffed to see the first dronefly of the season - he looks all shiny and new, too.
