a birthday, a key lime pie and a lot to do in the kitchen. late night conversations, fangirling on tumblr over a panel, the realization of just how talented my friends (both old and new) are, at the many things they do, and how blessed I am to have them here, close to me. how they keep me from falling apart with the simple knowledge that they're there.

I have a friend who told me once that freckles are the marks of where you've been kissed by angels. I have to say that if that's true, then I've been kissed A LOT. I have them all over my face, a few on my chest, hands and knees.

The Winter tends to drag them away. Without the sun, they get lighter, more pale even though they're still there, I can still see them all. But I can't wait for the Summer to be back — only then do my freckles come out fully, and only then do I feel happy with the world.

I decided to finally start my berry garden on the rooftop. I've been dying to plant my own blueberries, blackberries and raspberries, because they're horribly expensive here, so I can never do the recipes I love. Therefore, I spent the afternoon at the roof, planting the small bushes and watering them, making them all pretty and proper. It made me happy. It had been a while since I'd used my hands like that, to plant things, to start some semblance of a life.

Next, I'm planting cherry tomatoes and arugula; any suggestions for what could come next? I want to have a vegetable garden!
