NIN The Great BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH

Amy nailed this one by accident. I had to get it up here because I don't think I've ever noticed this before.

From Wired Interview - "We purposefully put one frame of the Blue Screen of Death in this collage of static that comes up at the end of 'Great Destroyer,' and right away people caught it," - Trent Reznor

I'm going to find some way to get this into a Hotline post. Maybe if another show gets cancelled...

It's famous now! Or, as famous as Web 2.0-social media sites can get :D

It actually flashes by in this video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=-x9BucfUYCE - about 4-5 seconds in. Just part of the visual noise it seems...

if you watch the video it is obviously not a crash. It is an error message in a melange of distortion images.

That is pure class! There's something a little Monty Python-esque about rocking out in front of a fatal exception!

Ooops, is a snapshot inside a video ?? or is NIN using Win....
I expect see NIN using OpenSource software like Linux

This was my desktop image within minutes of me finding it on ETS. Good to see it getting some web 2.0 notoriety!

The Great Destroyer was one of the songs I shot video for at the Red Rocks show. Just went through and found the BSOD, though not nearly as clear as the original picture. The video I shot is 31 FPS. The image below is one frame and you can barely see it in the next frame.

Hah, maybe next time they will use an MBox media server instead.

just so everyone is aware... that is a screen that is part of the video footage... it's supposed to be there... it's not "embarrassing" because nothing really crashed...

I linked this up when it was making the rounds on Digg recently, but didn't know who took the original until the post on The NIN Hotline came out. I've since added attribution and a follow-up post.

Thanks for sharing the awesome photo. The Nine Inch Fails caption that was added to it was funny, but the photo itself is the heart of the meme. Great shot!

Always amazing to see how many people don't read the image description. It was intentional, people!

    28. springheeledjack (57 months ago | reply)

The number of people here who don't get that this was intentional amuses me. Seriously, even if Trent hadn't said that it was intentional, (a) he hates Windows with a passion, and (b) he's been known to do things like this in the past (the Year Zero ARG, anyone?).

      Hey!

I used your image on the Gadget Lab at Wired:

Wow... I can only imagine Trent's reaction after that happened. He must have been PISSED!
Must have been another "PRESS THE FUCKING BUTTON!" night for Trent....

You stupid people, it was a part of act. There is a full picture somewhere with huge NIN logo on the left of this bullshit. It's easy to crop a photo and make it look like something else. Nine Inch Nails never fails ;)
