The Misterious Case of the Red Waves at Night

The Milky Way is arching on the top of the photo and some clouds of the friendly variation can be seen at the horizon.

The two bright stars on the left are Alpha and Beta Centauri.

I presumed the waves were lit by some kind of light source on my back but some people have told me it must be a case of bioluminiscense. I don't know still a mistery.
