One engine approach with Airbus A330 simulator

Engine parameters. Engine 2 (right) is off!
Only the thrust lever number 1 is used because of engine number 2 shutdown.
Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) is available
3 green lights indicating nose gear and two main gears are down
Autopilots are off and Autothrust is on (green light)
Runway 34 in Shanghai Pudong
Approach lights
Shanghai Pudong Airport Terminal building
PAPI : Precision Approach Path Indicator. 2 white lights and 2 red lights means on the correct slope. More white than red means to high, more reds than whites mean to low.
no nead for uniform? (not as seen in movies?) ;P
Not necessary for Simulator Training Session.Only uniform if passenger service.
any training session for A380? ;D
2000 feet
no master caution warning.. which is a good news
volets sortis completement
Compense à droite :)
cap au 347 pas de limite vitesse
Yes Bigoode,it's a good news. In this case, as one engine has failed, the master caution was ON a few minutes before. We use to cancel the warning light (by pushing on it) when we are aware (JCVD lol) of the situation and we treat the problem.
What is this?
This is called the MCDU (Multi Purpose Control and Display Unit). This is where we enter the flight plan, where we check the progress of the flight, where we select Navigation Aids and a lot of other things. Its the computer interface. There are 3 on board, this one is the number 2 (First Officer)
arm
What does this button do?
This is pressure indicator for alternate brake and parking brake.
utopilot?? heading?

We can easily see (with the help of my notes for non pilots :-) ) that engine number 2 (right) is shutdown and the aircraft is flying on one engine only.

WOW!! that is what I call a JOB!!!you really see some differences between the cockpits from different planes, time is flying by and the evolution also..(very noticable in a hightechmachine as this!!)

I just wanted to say as passengers we really appreciate the great job you guys do on the flight deck. I guess being a pilot is an awesome job, but I know it comes with awesome responsibilities too.

@chicca81,Arne,Clipper Monsoon,José,Virtual TravelR,Sidnei de Carvalho,Vucko 1000,Achiam,a.rud.beth : thank you for your nice comment
@Bellechique : absolutely. The engine failure is a "classic" in the simulator, but we have hundreds of other systems that can fail and that we have to train.
@cherrycol@ : you're right, i added notes and mentioned it in the description. Thank you.
@Lybian Soup : Thank you. It would be my pleasure to have you as passenger.
@Epsom MarkE : exactly, we would reach the airport but a bit short for the runway!
@Mathilde B. : you want to be my copilot?
@Joellymo : i hope one day you can join a crew for observation. It happens sometime.
@FlorinC : Thank you. It's in fact a PAPI (Precision Approach Path Indicator). You can know the difference with the number of bars. PAPI = 1 BAR - VASI = 2 or 3 BARS. But they have the same function.
@vector1771 : thank you

One engine only... Much better than AirTransat. I'm sure you don't really practice gliding approaches?

I'd love to do this job and setting all these little knobs and switches - just amazing - especially if your whole life is accompanied by electronic devices which have that few knobs and buttons that you know all functions after a few days... (except Photoshop, Linux and Avid Software ;)

Wow! Aircraft are amazing feats of engineering. I'm sure a lot more goes on "up front" than the average passenger realizes.

Great photo!

Hi, I'm an admin for a group called Engineering is Art, and we'd love to have this added to the group!

"Defining boundaries for engineering and art is almost impossible. Everything can be a product of engineering. Actually, everything IS a product of engineering. So what's this group about? It's about things that make you think about the mind who's behind what is visible. Share the feeling you have when you look at a slender bridge, a lean tower, a creative machine. Appreciate the creativity driven by technology and the technology applied with creativity."
