I'm learning to make soap!

I took a class recently in cold process soapmaking; these photos are from the class and from batches of soap I've made since then.

The only thing I do differently from that tutorial is to mix the lye/water in a steel bowl (not a pitcher), and I mix the oils/lye in another, larger bowl (not a pot). The stick blender isn't necessary, but it makes the process go a LOT faster.

My soapmaking teacher, Sharon Kaplan (her class in Ithaca is great!) recommends "The Natural Soap Book" and "The Soapmaker's Companion" by Cavitch as her favorite soapmaking books.
