madrid airport 1

madrid airport 1 by lowfatbrains.
On our way to and from South Africa, we had connecting flights at Madrid airport in Spain. It was the most beautiful airport I've ever been in.

It is a very beautiful airport! Unfortunately we were late for our flight so I never got to take pictures. So thank you for sharing! It's good to see it again.

FYI: The Airport was designed by Sir Richard Rogers. Forgive me for posting this thought it would be interesting:

Its other virtues aside — 174 check-in points set in acres of marble; automated, underground baggage transfer; intelligent car parking whereby the ticket tells you where you left your SUV — architect Richard Rogers' new terminal for Madrid's Barajas airport is a breathtaking study in the use of light and space. Located 2km from the existing airport, the Nuevo Area Terminal (NAT) is set to double the 35 million passengers a year Barajas currently handles when it opens early this year. Above its two terminal buildings, the largest 1km long, floats an elegant, undulating roof clad in soothing bamboo, punctuated by skylights that filter the harsh Madrid sun through adjustable screens. Together with the light shafts that divide the various stages of passenger processing, these ensure that, even in the subterranean areas, jet-lagged passengers never have to endure fluorescent tubes. From check-in, it's partition-free sailing to the gates, with glass walls offering wide vistas of the runways. This is air travel as it should be.

I don't mind architect4's posting; I'm here because I'm an image junkie but if I learn something along the way, that's great too.
